Adsis Superne Spiritus

This hymn was used for Compline on Sundays and Weekdays From Pentecost to Trinity Sunday in the Paris Breviary (later edition than 1836).

Adsis superne Spiritus,
Pater benigne pauperum:
Sinuque fundas uberi
Promissa terris munera.

Dum nox creati luminis
Iubar tenebris obruit,
Splendere tu non desinas,
Lux increata mentium.

Tu cordis hospes intimus,
Dulcis laborum tu quies;
Tu fletibus quos elicis
Divina misces gaudia.

Totius o fons gratiæ,
Certare da nos fortiter:
Certantibus da vincere,
Vincentibus da præmium.

Sit laus Patri, laus Filio:
Par sit tibi laus, Spiritus,
Afilante quo mentes sacris
Lucent et ardent ignibus. Amen.

Words: Paris Breviary, unknown edition/year (late 18th/early 19th C.).
Tune: Unknown
