Whither Dost Thou Hasten

I composed this hymn with the Second Joyful Mystery of the Holy Rosary (the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) in mind.

Whither dost thou hasten,
Virgin Lady Fair?
“For to see my cousin
In yon southern hills.
Lo! she was barren;
Now she is with child!
Blessed be the Lord, Who
Hath done mighty things!”

Wherefore dost thou cry out
Fair Elizabeth?
“At Blest Mary’s greeting
My son unborn leap’d!”
E’er-blest is she who
Trusted in the Lord
Blessed be the Lord, Who
Hath done mighty things!”

Yea! All generations
Call thee, Mary, blest!
Thou hast born the Savior,
God come in the flesh!
The song shall be sung
While e’er the ages run:
“Blessed be the Lord, Who
Hath done mighty things!”

Words: Noah Townsend, copyright 2017.
Tune:Noel Nouvelet” traditional French carol.
Meter: 65.65.55.65 (with some irregularities)
