Qualis Potestas Petre Quis Terris Honos

This hymn was used for Lauds for the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter (January 18 at that time) in the Paris Breviary(1736).

Qualis potestas, Petre, quis terris honos,
Cui iura Christus ipse concessit sua!
Quidquid ligabit, quidquid et solves solo,
Hoc et ligabis, solvet et polo Deus.

Tui probato cordis affectu, suum
Pastor supremus credidit tibi gregem:
Serva, tuere, pasce nos, pastor bone,
Illius et nos, Petre, pars gregis sumus.

Patri supremo sit suprema gloria,
Tibique laudes totus orbis concinat,
Æterne Fili , splendor æterni Patris;
Compar sit almo laus, decusque Flamini. Amen.

Words: Fr. Jean-Baptiste de Santeul, 1689.
Tune: Unknown
Meter: 12.12.12.12

Here is the original text from Fr. de Santeul’s 1689 book Hymni Sacri et Novi:

Qualis potestas, Petre, quis terris honos,
Cui iura Christus ipse concessit sua?
Quidquid ligabis, quidquid et solves solo,
Hoc et ligabit, solvet et polo Deus.

Tui probato cordis affectu, suum
Pastor supremus credidit tibi grege:
Serva, tuere, pasce nos, pastor bone,
Illius et nos, Petre, pars gregis sumus.

A Patre Christus quod sibi ius traditum,
Tibi reliquit, astra dum Victor redit:
Quibus ligamur,solve vincla criminu,
Datis reclude clavibus cæli fores.

Patri supremo sit suprema gloria,
Tibique laudes totus orbis concinat,
Æterne Fili , splendor æterni Patris;
Compar sit almo laus, decusque Flamini. Amen.
