O Salutaris Fulgens Stella Maris

This hymn was used for Lauds on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (July 2 at that time) in the Sarum Breviary.

O Salutaris, fulgens stella maris,
Generans prolem veritatis Solem
Mater bonorum clemens famulorum
Suscipe votum,

Congratulamur, et tuas conamur
Canere laudes quæ Deo congaudes
Sed non condignis prævalemus Hymnis
Dicere totum.

Quam veterana traxit in montana
Gressu festinam rosam matutinam
Tibi iubilamus, et concelebramus
Hæc tua festa.

Vocem Rachelis exaudi de cælis,
Quæ te nunc orat filiosque plorat,
Potens Regina gratia divina
Pellens molesta;

O mediatrix, orbis reparatrix,
Laus angelorum, salus infirmorum,
Flos feminarum* hostem amimarum
Reprime sævum.

Sit benedicta Trinitas invicta
Per quam beata Virgo coronata,
Meruit frui fructu ventris sui
Nunc et in ævum. Amen.

Words: Anonymous, 15th C., from the Sarum Breviary.
Tune: Unknown.
Meter: 11.11.11.5

*The Hymnale Secundum Usum Insignis Ac Praeclarae Ecclesiae Sarisburiensis (1850) spells this word “fœminarum”.
