Receive, O Lord, In Heaven Above

This is the original text of this hymn as it appears in The English Hymnal (1906). It is listed under Saints’ Days: General: For a Vigil in that hymnal:

Receive, O Lord, in heaven above
Our prayers and supplications pure;
Give us a heart all full of love
And steady courage to endure.

Thy holy name our mouths confess,
Our tongues are harps to praise thy grace;
Forgive our sins and wickedness,
Who in this vigil seek thy face.

Let not our song become a sigh,
A wail of anguish and despair;
In loving-kindness, Lord most high,
Receive to-night our evening prayer.

O raise us in that day, that we
May sing, where all thy Saints adore,
Praise to thy Father, and to thee,
And to thy Spirit, evermore. Amen.

Words: St. Ephraim the Syrian, 307-373; tr. Francis C. Burkitt, 1906.
Tune:St. Ambrose” From La Feillée ‘Méthode du plain-chant,’ 1782.
Meter: 8.8.8.8

Here is the original Aramaic/Syriac text of this hymn. I apologize for any errors that may be in the text. I was able to find the text in S. Ephraim’s Opera (Rome, 1732-4G, vol. vi., p. 536), as Paraenesis lxvi thanks to John Julian’s entry on this hymn, however the text was small and difficult to read. A few of the letters may be off – particular ayin and lamed which are hard to tell apart from one another in the Syriac script. The vowel markings may very well be inaccurate. I was attempting to match the best options to what I could see in the text. I welcome any constructive corrections to this text from anyone familiar with Syriac and/or the text of this particular hymn:
